Wright SWCD is now accepting applications for a full-time Engineering Technician.

Position will be located at Wright SWCD, 311 Brighton Ave S Ste. C, Buffalo, MN 55313.

Full Salary Range: $57,802 - $90,360 (starting salary based upon qualifications and experience)


Position Purpose:

This position performs in a technical capacity to carry out the installation of the Wright Soil and Water Conservation District’s Best Management Practices within Wright County. Technical duties include, but are not limited to, all facets of the design and installation of a conservation practice from the inception of the project to the check-out upon completion of construction. This position will also be fully involved with other District programs as time allows and as directed by the District Manager.


Responsibilities:

·         Advise landowners and oversee the installation of conservation practices

·         Gather soil and water resource data for the preparation of conservation practice designs, including detailed land surveys and drainage area delineation for practice design

·         Design conservation projects and practices to prevent soil erosion, sedimentation, and/or improve water quality

·         Lead meetings with contractors prior to and during construction

·         Supervise field layout, construction, and check-out of the conservation practices

·         Conduct follow-up visits with landowners to advise/assist on the maintenance of conservation practices

·         Operate drone to gather project information and documentation of completed projects

·         Work in partnership with other government agencies, associations and landowners

·         Write grants and administer funded projects from multiple cost-share programs

·         Other tasks and duties as assigned based on business needs


Minimum Qualifications:

·         Associate or bachelor’s degree in Natural Resource Management, Surveying, Biology, Hydrology, Soil Science and/or a related field

·         Computer Skills: GIS, computer modeling programs, Microsoft Suite

·         Strong interpersonal skills; capable of work effectively with individuals in the public, private, and Government sectors; self-motivated: able to work independently

·         Physical ability to carry equipment over rough terrain and ability to perform outdoor work in all seasons of the year, reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions

·         Valid driver's license

·         Must be able to pass a USDA security background check


Desired Qualifications:

·         Two (2) years of related technical experience working with landowners, the farming community, local government, and/or other community groups on Best Management Practices

·         Experience with AutoCAD

·         An understanding of agriculture and various natural resource agencies

·         An understanding of Soil and Water Conservation District - functions, goals, and programs
